Call of Duty 1 (COD 1) is a First Person Shooter (FPS) World War 2 Setting, centered around  Germany and Uni Soviet. Story begin when Germany start attack Rusia.

Story begin with player infiltrate France by using high altitude military parachuting. Player then covertly infiltrate enemy camp and eliminate any guards. Player then set a radio antena to inform the camp is clear, and then, friends troop come raining from the sky. The siren goes on, and the war begin.

World War is used as setting in many FPS games, but Call of Duty 1 made player feels new experience. Player will feels right inside the war by having allies troops controled by AI joining you in the fight. Player will not getting rain of bullet and eliminate all enemy alone, they will shooting at enemy and will die too. COD 1 also add event in game like rain of mortar, ambush, sniper, ect. It made player feels realistic an fantastic experience.

COD 1 mission is not always infiltrating eenemy base and eliminate anything that shoot at you, there also sniper vs sniper mission, helping injured ally, and using tank brigade to demolish enemy tank brigade and air defense. When Germany whan to attack Soviet using couple of tank brigade and hundreds of troops, you will be there hiding beside a tank when enemy shoots at you using machine gun and RPG.

War is not a one man army vs hundreds of enemy troops

But with all variety of mission player will do, COD 1 only consist of 24 mission, made the game a low playtime. I do all mission in normal difficulty on my extra time and finished it only in a few days.
When you get bored to shooting troop using machine gun, you will get tank and blast enemy with the main gun
both sound effect and BGM in this game feels great too. Sound of multiple gun shooting at each other and blast from grenade and RPG make it feels war is happen right beside you. Patriotic music sound when you finished a mission also make you feel like a troop that wins the war.

Even after all that pros this game have, COD 1 was published in 2003, made the graphic look clunky. Human skin that feels like he is wearing a lot of face powder, made this game looks classic. Classic graphic also mean a low spec to play it. I using a low spec laptop can play it with high settings.

Texture COD 1 that published in 2003, now feels classic
Other than that Player health will not automatically regenerate like modern FPS game. If you low on health, you must search for medkit that scattered around.

In the end I really recommend this game for anyone who like FPS game, especially who like a history based game FPS. It has a good story and sound, great gameplay, even with a classic graphic.

PS : For anyone who want to play it using widescreen, here is what you want to do :

Open folder [where you install]\Main.
Edit config.cfg using notepad.
Find (ctrl+f) :

1)
seta cg_fov "xx"
"xx" = "90" for 16:10 resolutions or "95" for 16:9 resolutions. (I can't find this line so I just skip it)

2)
seta r_customheight "xxx"
seta r_customwidth "xxxx"

Change it into resolution you want to play.

3)
seta r_mode "x"

Set this to -1.

5)
Do the same with config_mp.cfg, but skip the cg_fov part. (I also can't find this part so I just skip it)

6)
Skip intro because it can cause crash...
seta com_introplayed "0" to
seta com_introplayed "1
